Ferragosto

On Monday was Ferragosto, the Italian holiday celebrated on August 15. The Catholic Church celebrates the assumption of the blessed virgin Mary. Apparently, according to Wikipedia, this Holiday was celebrated way back by the Roman Empire to honor the gods — in particular Diana — and the cycle of fertility and ripening.

For us, it was an extra long weekend; three days of relaxation and long walks on the empty streets (litterally) of the city. What I loved about Ferragosto is that all the shops were closed and I could enjoy the artwork on their metal shutters.

Enjoy!

I told you. Normally, this is a very busy street – the kind that you want to avoid at any cost.
